Mica Grange – Sutton Grange
By Diane Beddison
Mica Grange was also part of the Castlemaine Garden Festival. Much of the property is quite open, with good use made of existing rocks and uninterrupted views of the surrounding countryside. The owner specialises in creating core-ten metal art work which is displayed in the garden. To one side of the garden is an attractive and quite extensive working vegetable garden. There are a couple of small Australian native gardens which could be developed further.
The veranda at the front of house, where afternoon tea is served, is a great place to sit and just take in the stunning view.
The highlight of Mica Grange was the gardens surrounding the back of the house. Plant selection in these mixed borders is excellent and the garden is well maintained. The Rose selection is particularly good and the limited number of varieties and restricted colour palette really works.
